Recently, after having taken my first really close look at the former text accompanying these photos, it hit me how strange it sounded. I don't know how things got botched up. I was a in a bit of a hurry at the time providing the text. My apologies for the oversight- it's been quite some time since this was put on the web page. I can't believe that I waited this long to catch it............The following is a little better view and what was formerly intended.

photo 1: Junco hyemalis ? 1st winter. This is the individual that I thought might have a little "pink-sided" lineage. Overall, the head and nape definitely appeared paler with a dark-lored  look during the observation- which subsequently did not show well in the photo- but alas, too much gray in the wings for mearnsii. Note the unusual pale submoustachial/ malar on the bird, which was even more noticeable at different views during the observation.

Photo 2, 3:Oregon-type- 1st winter ?

mantle brownish, noticeably darker hood

Pomarine Jaeger, Cross Lake, 11-08-1999

I needed to get back for Samantha's basketball game so I started back from the east end of the lake at 4 p.m. I noted a dark form behind me and to my left. I veered off to catch it and I found another Jaeger. This one was a juvenile Pomarine Jaeger.

This bird was very cooperative and allowed close approach and I got off 56 photos...overkill perhaps.

It landed on the water twice for me and I followed it from 4:05 p.m. until 4:50 p.m. east and west, west and east, etc., etc. until I finally left it sitting on the water at the west end of the lake south of Walter Flemming Park.

I was out this am with Jim Ingold and the Trahans and saw a PARASITIC JAEGER as well as the juvenile Pomerine Jaeger. Have many photos of both species and Jeff has photos as well as some video. I am absolutely positive on the identifications, and the photos should tell the rest. More later.
