NOTICE: Events listed may be hosted by organizations/entities other than the BSG. Efforts are made to ensure the accuracy of the information listed.

Beginning birders are welcome on all field trips. Membership in the BSG is encouraged but is not required for participation.

What to bring on field trips: binoculars, two-way radios, snacks, drinks, pen/paper if you’d like to keep your own records of sightings, and a spotting scope, if you have one.  In case of bad weather, contact the designated leader to see if the field trip will take place.

Field trips will LEAVE the designated meeting place at the time posted for each field trip. Plan to arrive early for field trip orientation and any carpooling/caravanning arrangements. For more information, please contact Larry Raymond or Mac Hardy.  See contact information at BSG Officers

The annual September hawk watch will be held again this year at the home of Hubert Hervey in DeSoto Parish on Saturday, September 23, 2017.  We usually count hawks from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., but Hubert says you are welcome to come a little earlier and stay later.  This time of year is great for watching hawk migration, although we need the weather and conditions to cooperate to see a lot of hawks. But, whether we see lots of raptors or not, this is always a fun event.  Bring your own food and drink, including a sack lunch if you want lunch.  Don't forget insect repellant, sunscreen, and a chair.  Call or email me with any questions.

Directions: Exit I-49 South of Shreveport at the Southern Loop Exit, go right to Linwood, then left on Linwood for 3 miles to Ranchette on the right. Turn right on Ranchette and go 1 mile to Missile Base Road, then left 0.8 mile to Hervey Dairy Road.

Alternative Driving directions from Shreveport:  From the intersection of West Bert Kouns Industrial Loop (LA-526) and Linwood Ave., drive south on Linwood Ave. 5.6 miles until you reach Ranchette Road.  Turn right onto Ranchette Road and travel one mile until you come to a T at Missile Base Road.  Turn left onto Missile Base Road and drive 0.85 miles until you reach Hervey Dairy Road.  The mailbox here has the number 203 on it.  Turn left and drive to Hubert's house.  See the map below.
