FIELD TRIPS & SPECIAL EVENTS

NOTICE: Events listed may be hosted by organizations/entities other than the BSG. Efforts are made to ensure the accuracy of the information listed. 

Beginning birders are welcome on all field trips. Membership in the BSG is encouraged but is not required for participation.

What to bring on field trips: binoculars, two-way radios, snacks, drinks, pen/paper if you’d like to keep your own records of sightings, and a spotting scope, if you have one.  In case of bad weather, contact the designated leader to see if the field trip will take place.

Field trips will LEAVE the designated meeting place at the time posted for each field trip. Plan to arrive early for field trip orientation and any carpooling/caravanning arrangements. For more information, please contact Larry Raymond or Mac Hardy.  See contact information at BSG Officers

DIRECTIONS TO BIRD BANDING SITE

HOW TO GET THERE:

From I-49: Get off at the Southern Loop Exit and travel west on Southern Loop Rd to Linwood Road. Turn left onto Linwood Rd. Travel on Linwood Rd to Ranchette Rd.  Ranchette Dr. is just past the sign for YORK QUALITY SHEET METAL INC. about three tenths of a mile. Turn right onto Ranchette Dr. and take Ranchette Dr. (1 mile) until it T's with Missile Base Rd. (there is no road sign). Turn left. Go 0.8 miles and turn left over the cattle guard that enters the farm. The sign says Hervey Dairy Road. The Hervey house is the first house on the left at the top of the hill.

Go south on Linwood Road. If you turn off of the outer loop (Bert Kouns) by the McDonalds it is ~5.7 miles to Ranchette Dr.  At about 5.1 miles there will be a convenience store on your left at the corner of Whip-poor-will and Linwood.  Ranchette Dr. is another 0.6 miles ahead on your right. There is a small church on the southwest corner. Turn right onto Ranchette Dr. Take Ranchette Dr. (1 mile) until it T's with Missile Base Rd. (there is no road sign). Turn left.  Go 0.8 miles and turn left over the cattle guard that enters the farm. The sign says Hervey Dairy Road. The Hervey house is the first house on the left at the top of the hill.

From I-49: Get off at the Stonewall exit and travel west on Stonewall-Frierson Rd (3276) to Baker Rd. Turn right onto Baker Rd. Travel on Baker Rd. until it turns into Missile Base Rd. Continue on Missile Base Rd. until you get to Hervey Dairy Rd. (See above)

From Mansfield Rd: Travel east on Stonewall-Frierson Rd (3276) to Baker Rd. Turn left onto Baker Rd. Travel on Baker Rd. until it turns into Missile Base Rd. Continue on Missile Base Rd. until you get to Hervey Dairy Rd. (See above)
